Winner!

Congratulations to Kimberly Harwood, who has won this fistful of Through The Round Window postcards (and other goodies).  Email me your address and I'll get them in the post, pronto.

(I'm not actually 103 years old, judging by that wrinkly thumb.  But working with stained glass does take it's toll on your hands...)

New Postcards / Giveaway

I got some postcards printed recently of two of my most popular designs - Friendly Acorn and 3 Little Cacti.  They're professionally printed on thick 350gsm card with a gloss finish.  Perfect for framing or sending or sticking or pinning.  Available now on Folksy and Etsy.

I haven't done a giveaway for a while, so leave a comment by midnight on Monday 4th March, saying who you'd like to send a postcard to, and I'll pick one winner to receive a little bundle of Through The Round Window postcards, notecards and stickers etc.

Anyone can enter, just make sure I can contact you if you're the lucky winner.  Feel free to spread the word via Twitter, Pinterest, blog or carrier pigeon.

Scandi Cushion / Winners Announced / Discount Code

My heart did a little skip when I came across this cushion in my favourite junk shop.  Gorgeous colours!  Hand embroidered!  Scandi-tastic!  Just need an Ercol sofa now and I'm well on my way to my sofa-of-dreams.

The giveaway has now finished - the winners are SAM and HELEN D.   Massive thanks to everyone who entered, I was so thrilled with the response and wonderful comments.  As a way of saying thanks, there is currently 15% off in my Etsy shop, with the coupon code PARTYBAG, which will last until next Friday.

I've really enjoyed Lou's series of guest posts this last week - particularly the other house tours.  Fran's and Kerry's are both stunning.  Mine was tidy for about 3 hours after I took the photos, and now it's back to its usual haphazard state.  Oh well.

GIVEAWAY - Contemporary Stained Glass Owl Baby

Today I'm having a giveaway.  I've been requested to make an owl quite a few times before, but have never done it, for one reason or another.  But a drawing session with the kids the other day produced a little sketch that made me smile, so I thought I'd make one and see if I liked it.  Which I do.

This is the prototype, made from gorgeous handmade Polish glass in juicy colours.  The design is hand-painted and kiln fired.  I've made a couple of minor changes to the design that I will be listing in my shops, hence I am offering this one to the good readers of my blog.  There is also a runner's up prize of a pack of 3 of my blank cards of your choice.

I'm using this rather good giveaway widget.  I hope it works.  You can have up to 5 entries, or you can just do one.  Click on the "read more" link to enter. Good luck!

Peg Dolls / Winners

I'm recovering from 4th Birthday Party mayhem, although we did have a great day, the weather behaved itself and the bunting fluttered to order, so all good.

I decided that I'd had enough buying plastic crap to put in the party bags, and I'd seen a couple of things on Pinterest that gave me the idea to make some peg dolls to put in the bags (along with the usual sweeties and obligatory balloon). No time for complicated stitchery though. But then I remembered this book that I'd been given by my sister for Christmas. Aha, I thought... paper skirts! I love folded paper!

Not only that, after a recent shopping spree (read: revoltingly over-the-top splurge at a certain fashion establishment *coughwhitestuffsalecough*) I had a good stash of little bits of haberdashery that I saved from the swing tags: lace, twine, velvet ribbon etc.

I used pvc electrical tape to make their bodices. It is possibly my new favourite material. Stretchy. Sticky. Lots of colours. Available from just about anywhere.

I was even organised enough to take a few in-progress shots like a real proper blogger.

The girls spent a long time trying to decide which one they wanted in their party bag. Yes, even the host kids get a party bag round here.... and why not, it does take the sting out of everyone going home a bit.

Thanks to everyone who commented on the giveaway. The lucky winners are....

No. 23, which is Maddie and No. 38 which is Rike. Congratulations - I shall start on your leaves tomorrow! Sorry, I would love to be able to furnish you all with a little something. Maybe I'll have to start doing giveaway party bags, so that no-one has to go home empty handed...

The Totally-Crazy-Once-In-A-Lifetime-Help-Yourself-To-Anything* Giveaway!

I know. Bonkers eh? But that's the deal, anyone can enter, just visit my Folksy shop, decide what you'd like, post a comment below (sorry, no anony-mouses though) telling me what it is and one lucky winner will receive the item of their choice! If it's something I have in stock I'll post it asap, and if not, I'll make it for you (you'll receive it in about 7 days for UK peeps, longer for overseas peeps).

For further chances to win, add yourself to the rest of the very agreeable followers over to your right there. If you want to blog or tweet a link (include @TheRoundWindow in your tweet so I see it) to the giveaway, that would also be another entry - just let me know in your comment. I'll draw the winning name out the hat next week.

The reason I'm doing this? I'm being featured over on the brand spanking new and gorgeous UK-based website Craftsville, who will be bringing you the best in independent art, craft, design and creativity. The lovely Michelle and Helen will be giving you a guided tour around my (newly de-cobwebbed) workshop.

No More i-Phone Envy + Giveaway trailer.

Because the main reason I've been hankering after one is I want to play with that Hipstamatic App. But now, thanks to a bit of detective work and the help of My Girl Thursday, I've found Picnik. Soooooo much fun. All sorts of effects, including Cross Process (above), Lomo, Sepia...the list goes on. This was a pretty flippin brilliant photo of the Nellster to start with, but all the better for a bit of tweaking.

Must go, I want to play with it some more. Oh, and do stop by tomorrow. I'll be doing a Giveaway.

Monday, March 1

Ho Hum

Just drumming my fingers, waiting for balls to get rolling, whips to get cracking and shows to get on the road - there are a couple of interesting jobs in the pipeline that are yet to get the go-ahead.

In the meantime, I'm really looking forward to this Friday's episode of Mastercrafts (9.00pm BBC2) which will follow 4 apprentices trying their hand at stained glass. The mentor who will be training them is an artist called Sophie Lister Hussain, whose work embraces a wide variety of styles and practices and is technically superb. She also shares a studio with my ex-collegue and good friend Delia (http://www.apollostainedglass.co.uk/), so I was a little green with envy that she would be rubbing shoulders with the lovely Monty Don for a few days.

I've yet to catch up on the previous episodes of this show (green woodcraft, thatching and blacksmithing) but by all accounts they make really interesting viewing.

Other newsworthy items...I won a giveaway! This beautiful paper mechanical animal set from Oh My Cavalier! (via Pikaland).

Julianna's work is inspired by ephemera, folklore and sharp-toothed mammals. This hesitant little badger just about breaks my heart.

All photos from Oh My Cavalier

Oh and I should also like to point you in the direction of It Belongs To Turtle by way of thanks to the Turtle for his kind words about my glass. A very charming Turtle he is too.

OK, that's me done for the year. See you in 2010! I'm off to get started on the Stones Green Ginger Wine....
