Things I need in my life

A cleaner. Well, first of all, I need a clearer-upper, then a cleaner.

The patience to finish painting our lovely new shower room.

Grandparents who say "We'd love to have the kids for the weekend".

Sunshine (without the icy-north-wind-side order).

A 2 year old who does not throw the mother of all tantrums every time I try to get her dressed/undressed.

This Moomin fabric (found via My Paper Crane, and available from Shannon Scandinavian Furniture and Lighting, amongst other places)

  1. I have that same 2 year old. Her clothes are the wrong shade of blue. She wants the SPECIAL blue. She therefore sometimes leaves the house in pyjamas. This makes us gurriers. The fabric is wonderful.

  2. Now come on, you really should share all of that with ME. I really need it, like badly. For example today I got up at 6 a.m. to to be, well attempt to be Super Woman. And after a long list of things starting with scrubbing dog poo of Hector's shoes and ending with reading 'Where's Wally' with a headache I am done. Plus everywhere looks like I don't even exist. Tomorrow I'm getting up at a more reasonable time, because I'm sure, no very positive that my efforts today have mad NO difference. Phew, see, bloody hell i've worn you out now. Boy do I need a Moomin cushion to rest my head on. Glad to see that someone out there needs the same things. Laura x

  3. Oh come here Laura...lay your head on my shoulder. There there, that's it, let it out. Doesn't that feel better now?

Mise, sorry, i've already rambled incoherently over at your place, no doubt to the bemusement of your guests.

And I forgot to mention the endless snot wiping. I also need a kleenex the size of Surrey to deal with it all.

  4. I too need all of the above apart from the two year old as I have a teenager who insists on raiding my wardrobe so I have nothing to wear! Not sure what that say about us - either I dress too young or she looks middle aged. Neither is good.

  5. Terrible twos - remember those... My eldest has morphed into a stroppy, at time arrogant know-it-all 14 year old, who now towers above me (1.85m!), so looks like I'll be struggling with a terrible teenager.
    Love, love, love those cushions!

  6. yeah, i'm kinda hoping that inbetween toddlerhood and teenagedom there's a really nice bit. Actually my 6 year old is really nice, most of the time.

  7. gus just projectile vomited on me. he's learning to crawl but he's so darn huge, he can't lift his own body and lands in heap after 2 seconds. this is my day, every day. (not the vomit thank goodness.) there he goes again. doink!

it sounds very bourgeois but i would recommend getting a cleaner. we have ours once a fortnight and i LOVE him. x

  9. There is some excellent group therapy going on here. I'm sensing that there is a lot of frustration in the room. Does anyone else have anything they'd like to share? And then we'll break for tea and biscuits.

  12. Ah the ole' projectile poo trick. Youngest daughter is lactose intolerant, but it took 14 months and a LOT of projectile poo/sick/dreadful wind to diagnose. Fun.

    I'm opening the ChocoLiebniz.

  14. Marc Dwarling! How lovely to see you. You've caught us all on a rather bad day I'm afraid...don't let that put you off visiting though. When are you starting your blog by the way - "Sausages of Poland" ?

  15. Needing first a cleaner-upper, then a cleaner... it's so true.

Also just recently I had a conversation with a friend who was saying that she used to have terrible fights with her son about changing clothes. She said it was just awful. So what she finally would do was after his evening bath, which he wouldn't mind so much, she would dress him in his clothes for school the next day and let him sleep in them. Then in the morning he would just get up and continue on with the day. She said someone recommended that solution to her and it was a saving grace for them!

  17. i hope i'm not too late for the hob nobs, i'll pass on the poo thank you , mine are now big and dress themselves thankfully but if you don't mind i could relive the angst of awakening to a two year old trying to prise my mouth open with a screwdriver having just smeared her head with an entire container of sudocream so that she resembled a junior max wall.....the laugh was on the other side of her face when she had to get it all washed out i can tell you.
thanks for having me....is there anything else?

  18. I think I'm onto something with this whinging. I've never had such a high comment count - I'm almost rivalling Mise!

Lovely Elaine Jaboopee - how is that blog break working out for you. Your comment made me guffaw like an idiot. Thankyou.

  19. there are a lot of 'things that make me happy' blogs. a lot of counting blessings, being thankful, lists of things we like. maybe you should start a 'things that disappoint me' blog. i would be a willing contributor. i like moaning. x

  20. o, that moomin fabric is too-die-for! i love the original moomin drawings. they've got so much texture to them compared with the new japanese ones.
