Just a quick picture of my lightbox last night with a few bits and bobs in progress.
The cottage is a bit of an experiment - the jury's still out as to whether it's pretty cool or pretty naff. Might be better in brighter colours methinks. Then there's a few more birds, and at the bottom is a bit of galvanised steel wire that I was playing with. I am really liking using this wire to add a bit of extra detail to the finished pieces (like the heart speech bubble on the birds).
I just love those birds. I think you've really hit on something wonderful with the combination of jewel colours and stylized pen-work.
ReplyDeleteWhat about a gingerbread house? Amber and pink? x x x
I think the cottage is ever so charming, but I'd say yes to brighter colours. Pink, yellow, and aqua. Yes, that would be gaudy, but who cares. And I love the self-confidence of those birds.
ReplyDeleteI love every part of it. Such proud birds. I think brighter colours would change the feeling of the birds from dignified to pretty. I like the dignified effect.
ReplyDeleteScrummy! And what lovely lettering and such proud birds indeed. Love them, but then I always do. L x
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! So lovely to get such supportive and constructive comments - it's really appreciated ^.^
ReplyDeletei like the cottage and especially the wire. lovely. x
ReplyDeleteOMG! Love, love , love these birds and the little cottage. Just found my way here from Jane Foster's blog... off to Folksy to take a peek. Love your designs, I am such a huge fan of beautiful stained glass. I bought my house because of the turquoise and cranberry stained glass door and hardly noticed the rest of the house was falling down! Jo x
