The problem with blogging is that eventually, you're going to run out of nice things to say. So to nip that problem in the bud (well, I've not been blogging for that long, or that regularly but I'm already getting very weary of "lovely") I'm putting down some alternatives:
Hmmm....even some of those are looking a bit jaded. I might have to resurrect one of my dad's favourites - "Marsupial*". Any other suggestions?
*I should add the background to this...about 300 million years ago when I was a little girl, my mum and dad ran a pub. My dad claimed that, being the thrusting trend-setter that he was, he could start using a word behind the bar, and eventually everyone would be saying it. His word of choice was "Marsupial", (which is a very splendid word and rather limited in its usage, so he appropriated it to mean marvellous, super and special all at once). It did indeed catch on.
oh my, this is me all over. i think i even mentioned it in a post a few months ago after saying 'lovely' about 3 times. i like sublime. it's got a 40s musical feel to me. i MUST start using it!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, sublime - definitely.
ReplyDeleteI've spent far too long faffing around trying to get that font to look right. I give up. It will just have to remain too small to see properly. boo, and indeed, hoo.
i love marsupial, was that one of your dad's own?
ReplyDeleteI've noticed i'm using the adverb 'really ' all the time,
it's really annoying !
Oh Flora I do look forward to hopefully, fingers crossed, and holding my breath to getting a 'Marsupial' from you one day. x
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean- lovely is my favourite word! I rather like "scintillating" but so far, haven't found a suitable use for it.
ReplyDeleteSo funny, 'lovely' is completely overused on my blog and I generally repeat the same words. I often cringe when re-reading posts and have to resist the urge to do some editing!
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm afraid "lovely" and "really" get used over and over again on my blog. I do try to pop in a few "striking" or "appealing" from time to time...not so sure I know where to place a marsupial.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah - indeed - my favourite saying that a friend uses - and I always wish would roll off my tongue is 'my stars!' but it always sounds just a little pre-planned when I say it!
ReplyDeleteI am so guilty of overusing the same words over and over especially lovely... but I do think so many things are lovely hee hee.
ReplyDeleteNew words are wonderful and your Marsupial is my new favourite!
xo
hahahahahahahaha, what a comely list that is! and much needed, i try to add a dash of old fashioned charm to my comments so fetching, super and splendid are all calling to me!
